- Toyota Motor Europe (TME) sales totalled 660,621 units from January-September this year, up 4.7 % year-on-year versus a market(1) growth of 0.1%
- TME’s market share stands at 4.8% in January – September
- Toyota and Lexus combined hybrid sales represent a 14% year-on-year increase
- For Toyota, Corolla (+44%) and Auris (+13%) performed well compared to the same period last year
- Lexus sales up by 19% year-on-year, reaching 37,528 units
Toyota Motor Europe (TME) today announced third quarter sales of 208,157 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, bringing the January-September total sales to 660,621 units (up 4.7% year-on-year) and the group’s market share to 4.8% for the nine-month period.
Hybrid Highlights
Toyota Hybrid models reached 108,835 units for the first nine months of the year, a 12% increase versus last year. Lexus Hybrid sales increased by 27% year-on-year with 22,184 hybrid vehicles sold in the first nine months of the year, thanks to the excellent sales of the new IS hybrid. Lexus Hybrid sales represent 60% of the total Lexus sales.
In total, hybrid sales reached 131,019 in the first nine months of 2014, bringing the cumulative hybrid sales of Toyota and Lexus in Europe to 795,361 vehicles since the sale of the first Prius in Europe in 2000. Globally, Toyota and Lexus just announced they have passed the 7 million hybrid sales mark.
The Toyota Auris Hybrid Touring Sports has performed particularly well with sales reaching 27,089 units.
1 out of 2 Auris sold in Europe is a Hybrid. The Toyota Yaris Hybrid achieves 12% increase in sales versus the same period of 2013 to 42,463 units, showing the continuing good performance of the model, despite the run-out of the current model over the summer period. September has been the best sales month for Yaris Hybrid sales, thanks to the successful launch of the new Yaris.

Daniele Schillaci, Senior Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, said: “Our sales performance since the beginning of 2014 is perfectly in line with our plans. Across Europe, the new generation AYGO is generating great excitement with both loyal and conquest customers, which bodes very well for the fourth quarter. And in Russia, we are performing well despite the difficult market conditions thanks to our “mass premium” positioning.”
Sales of the Toyota Auris range increased by 13% to 108,179 units, with the strong performance of the Auris Hybrid Touring Sports. Sales of the Corolla remain very strong with a 44% increase year-on-year to reach 62,415 units – 75% of which in Israel, Russia and Turkey.
Lexus Highlights
During the first 9 months of 2014, Lexus sales increased by 19% to 37,528 units, increasing sales by 5,920 units over the same period of last year. The very positive trend started since the beginning of the year with the good performance of the new IS launched last year.
IS Sales have increased by 25% to reach 9,592 units, out of which 79% are hybrid. Lexus IS hybrid sales increased by 36% versus last year, thanks to the successful launch of the model.
The newly lanched NX has performed very well with already more than 5,000 customers having placed orders in the first weeks following the launch. Lexus is one of the fastest growing brands in Europe and we plan to increase sales by 20% for the whole year, exceeding 50,000 units sales in 2014.
