Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that its U.S. sales subsidiary Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. will begin exports to Russia and Ukraine this April of “Venza” crossover SUV vehicles manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK), TMC’s vehicle manufacturing subsidiary in the United States. Initial annual export volume will be approximately 5,000 units in total; approximately 4,000 units to Russia and approximately 1,000 to Ukraine.
Toyota’s sales have increased significantly in Russia and Ukraine, with sales last year in Russia up 27 percent year-on-year to approximately 169,000 units* and in Ukraine up 13 percent year-on-year to approximately 16,000 units. The addition of the Venza to these markets will enable Toyota to offer a more diverse lineup to better meet the needs of consumers.
Since the beginning of U.S.-manufactured Toyota-vehicle exports in 1988, the U.S. has grown steadily as an export base for Toyota and now exports to 21 countries and regions, including Canada and Mexico. Exports last year increased 45 percent year-on-year to reach a record 124,000 units. Toyota will continue to aim for a globally optimized production structure that accurately meets consumer needs in a timely manner.
