- Ford sales up 11 per cent in Russia in 2012
- Record sales of Focus, Kuga and Transit in December
- Ford Focus segment leader in 2012
- Start of local production in Tatarstan helped to meet growing demand for Ford vehicles
Ford Sollers today confirmed that Ford vehicle sales in Russia increased by 11 per cent in 2012, with 130,815 units sold in total. Ford Focus sales were up by 12 per cent last year, making it the best-selling model in the C-segment segment. Last year also saw significant growth for Ford in the Sports Utility Vehicle and commercial vehicle segments: Kuga sales were up 45 per cent, Explorer sales tripled; and Transit was up 56 per cent.
December also marked a record month for the latest generation of Focus, Kuga and Transit, achieving their best-ever monthly sales.
“This was the first full year of operation for the Ford Sollers joint venture in Russia, and we had a great result. Our employees, dealers and – of course, our customers – have all contributed to our success. This coming year, we’ll build further on this solid foundation as we increase our domestic production in Russia,” said Ted Cannis, President and CEO, Ford Sollers.
“The success of the Kuga, Explorer and Transit is closely connected to the start of production of these vehicles at the Ford Sollers plant in Elabuga last year. It was very important for us to meet growing customer demand in the all-important SUV and commercial vehicles segments,” said Adil Shirinov, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Ford Sollers.
Customer satisfaction also increased in Ford dealerships across Russia last year, with customers giving Ford a five per cent improvement for its sales process, and four percent improvement for its after sales service.
Five new Ford dealerships were opened in Moscow, Vologda, Saratov, Biysk and Ryazan in the fourth quarter of 2012. The number of Ford dealerships in Russia today totals to 120 in 79 cities. “Towards the end of 2012, the Russian auto market started to stabilize following a period of fast growth. For 2013, we’re expecting industry volumes to be at the same level as in 2012. Our clear objective at Ford Sollers in 2013 is to continue to provide our customers with more Ford products and increased service in the Russian market,” said Cannis.
