A look into OEM strategies to reduce CO2 emissions

Consumers might be prepared to pay more for additional technology if it is a step change leading to a major improvement in fuel efficiency, says Roland Berger's Bernhart.

Cars are responsible for around 12% of total EU emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), according to the European Commission (EC). EU legislation sets mandatory emission reduction targets for new cars. The fleet average to be met by all new cars by 2015 is 130g/km of CO2. By 2021, the mandatory level to be achieved will be 95g/km.
