Initiatives to bring advanced infotainment features to the mass market in affordable vehicles are becoming increasingly common, and the 2014 Paris motor show stood as an innovation ground for the latest innovative yet affordable in-car technology offerings. One of these offerings came from Ford, which unveiled an array of new models at the show offering its advanced Sync 2 voice-activated connectivity system.
The infotainment system, which is being offered in the new Focus ST, Mustang, Focus, C-Max and Grand C-Max, features a high-resolution, eight-inch colour touch screen and advanced voice control for easier access to audio, navigation, climate control and compatible mobile phones, features which are usually associated with luxury brands.
Automotive World spoke to Ford’s Chief Engineer, Christof Kellerwessel, at the show, who noted that the trend of connecting cars to the Internet of Things is becoming a reality in all market segments. He also highlighted Ford’s Sync 2 strategy, and the importance of making the system an affordable option for the customer going forward.
