BMW’s security scare flags OTA concerns

OTA updates may provide many benefits to OEMs, but as it continues to roll out in cars, so do concerns surrounding its ability to keep the customer and his vehicle secure

Over-The-Air (OTA) is considered a potential game changer, with its ability to fix bugs and enhance features without requiring a physical connection to the vehicle. Once OEMs upgrade to this infrastructure, they are likely to experience a rapid and dramatic improvement in vehicle performance and customer satisfaction, and a steep dip in costs.

From remote infotainment system improvements to recall remedies, OTA updates may provide many benefits to OEMs, but as OTA continues to roll out in cars, so do concerns surrounding its ability to keep the customer and his vehicle secure.
