Inside a lab at Henkel’s Technical Development Centre in Madison Heights, Michigan, the gutted body of a SUV is undergoing tests to improve its noise, vibration and ride harshness qualities (NVH). Using a laser vibrometer, vibrations are sent through the body, and hotspots where the noise is emerging from are mapped out. Liquid applied sound deadener (LASD) and acoustic foam is then applied where necessary, and the solution is drawn up and passed along to OEMs along with the necessary materials.
