RAV4 announcement shows Toyota’s long-term confidence in Russian market

Toyota will start building one of Russia’s most popular models at its St Petersburg plant in anticipation of improved prospects for the Russian market. By Xavier Boucherat

Toyota has confirmed it will begin building the RAV4 at its St Petersburg plant in Russia. Local production will start in August 2016, doubling the plant’s capacity from 50,000 to 100,000 units per annum (upa). To date, investment in the plant to bring the RAV4 onto the line totals Roubles 7.1bn (US$104.3m).
