Platooning technology costs ‘peanuts’ – NXP

NXP’s Maurice Geraets tells Freddie Holmes that truck platooning may be here sooner than expected.

DAF recently participated in the European Truck Platooning Challenge alongside other OEMs including Iveco and Volvo, which was organised by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. The challenge aimed to promote the use of platooning technology and demonstrate that it is ready for public roads. Current regulations do not allow the technology to be used outside of strict testing initiatives.

Speaking to Automotive World at a DAF Trucks facility in Westerlo, Belgium, Maurice Geraets, Senior Director of New Business at NXP, discussed how the supplier is well positioned to bring platooning technology to public roads sooner than some might expect.
