Preserving ‘self protection’ remains key despite ADAS adoption

Freddie Holmes speaks to Thatcham Research’s Chief Technical Officer about the changing face of vehicle safety. The upshot? Passive safety technologies are still key, but the benefit of avoiding an impact in the first place cannot be ignored

The industry’s focus on autonomous driving has never been stronger, and has led to an increased uptake of driver assistance technologies that enable incremental levels of vehicle autonomy. Vehicle safety standards have adapted to such changes, and various safety assessment ratings now take into account active features that can prevent or mitigate accidents.
