No August holiday for German rivalry

Maintaining momentum is central to success for Germany's luxury players and nobody can afford a holiday in this competitive environment, writes Megan Lampinen

The German luxury wars show little signs of letting up, even during the traditionally slow holiday period in August. Competition remains fierce and with fluctuations continuing in the ranks, first place is far from guaranteed.

Mercedes-Benz was the clear winner in August, both in terms of volumes and growth. Its global sales jumped 11.8% year-on-year (YoY) to 156,246 units, ahead of BMW's 5% growth to 142,554 units and Audi's more modest 2.9% rise to 132,350 units.
