Connectivity is king: Europe rushes to embrace the smart truck

Under the Presidency of the Netherlands, the Council of the EU has taken big steps to enable future trucks. NXP has stepped up to deal with the colossal technical challenges. Xavier Boucherat reports

Europe is deadly series about connected and automated trucks, and some states in particular are keen to push things forward. Over the first half of 2016, the Netherlands held Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), the institution which represents the governments of the 28 member states. During that time, the country advanced its vision with the Declaration of Amsterdam, which lays down agreements on the steps necessary for the development of self-driving technology. Along with stimulating innovation and technical development, the document calls for the adoption of road laws and approval of new technologies.
