Buses will play an essential role in the cities of the future, particularly lightweight, electric buses. As urban regions battle with a growing population, congested road space and tighter emissions standards, clean and shared mobility will be a must. That's the view expressed by Håkan Agnevall, President of Volvo Buses.
"In the city of tomorrow, there are four major constraints: air quality, noise, energy and road space," he told Automotive World. For this first challenge, electrification will prove key and Volvo is investing heavily in this technology. It currently offers electrified models in Europe, North America and South America. So far, uptake has been linked in part to government support, either in the form of subsidies or green tech requirements.
