Goodyear introduces its new winter tire line-up with SoundComfort technology. After successfully implementing the noise-reduction technology in its summer range, Goodyear now offers consumers the possibility to choose winter tires with its SoundComfort technology.
A quieter ride is a more comfortable ride. There are however many elements that create noise in a car’s interior: wind, driving speed, road conditions, engine and structure noises, as well as tires. When trying to reduce cabin noise, tires can offer the most effective contribution (both in cost and weight) compared to other engineered solutions such as the suspension system.
One of the main sources of tire noise is the tire air cavity resonance, produced by air vibration inside the tire and transmitted to the vehicle’s structure. Goodyear’s SoundComfort technology works directly to reduce the tire air cavity resonance.
Goodyear applies an open-cell polyurethane foam element to the inner surface of the tire. The advanced foam layer inside the tire reduces air vibrations creating a relaxed atmosphere for drivers and passengers, allowing music or a good conversation to be even better enjoyed whilst driving. Without compromising driving performance, SoundComfort technology makes the vehicle cabin half as quiet, compared to regular tires. [1]
The foam is light enough to avoid impact on mileage, rolling resistance or speed capability.[1]
“For over 100 years, Goodyear has been on a mission to push tire innovation forward. Our SoundComfort technology is a key example. We increase the comfort of driving with a quieter ride. And when the driver can focus more on the road the ride can become safer“, said Martijn de Jonge, Brand Director Consumer PBU EMEA.
