In order to meet the rising demand for PTC ceramics, Eberspaecher catem GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its production and development capacities. To that end, the company has acquired an approximately three hectare site on the Hermsdorf East industrial park. Ceramics are key components of the high-voltage electrical heaters fitted in electric and hybrid vehicles.
“With this expansion we are taking a major step in meeting the mobility needs of tomorrow. The ceramics manufactured in Hermsdorf are at the core of our heating technology for electric and hybrid vehicles worldwide. The new facility additionally offers space for expanding our development work, and integrating new process technologies for future products,” comments Andreas Schwarzer, General Manager of Eberspaecher catem. On a site directly adjacent to the A4 highway, the new facility due for completion in Spring 2018 will incorporate an approximately 10,000 square meter production and a 2,800 square meter administration and engineering building. It will in future enable in-production development to be intensified, and in-production testing of the latest product generations to be implemented.
In July 2016 Eberspaecher extended its production depth by taking over the production plant of Paul Rauschert Steinbach GmbH in Hermsdorf. Some 80 people are currently employed in Hermsdorf. They are scheduled to start operating the new plant in Summer 2018. In the long term, the company is planning to create as many as 150 new jobs, especially in production-related areas. Based on the increasing numbers of vehicles powered by alternative drive systems, demand for high-voltage electrical heaters is set to grow strongly over the years ahead. The new site provides the necessary space for future expansion of operations.
