High-definition mapping technology will be essential for the development of safe autonomous vehicles (AVs), but it's mapping at an unprecedented level of precision. These are no simple navigation maps to guide a route from A to B, but rather deep sources of information on everything to do with the road surface, the number of lanes, the trajectory of lane markings, delineators, signage, and so on. Ushr estimates that urban or local roads can have more than 500 attributes, all of which need to be collected with high precision.
