VW Group’s India future to be guided by Skoda

VW Group hopes its US$1.2bn ‘India 2.0’ strategy will help it recover lost market share. And it’s picked its Czech subsidiary to lead the way. By Radhe Shyam

After failing to make profits in India despite investing over a billion dollars, the Volkswagen Group is going in for a complete overhaul of operations in the country. The new strategy now puts Czech subsidiary Skoda at the helm as the VW brand takes a back seat, agreeing to play second fiddle in the world’s fourth-largest car market.
