Japan’s capital moves on new tech and old

Despite excellent public transport, it seems likely there will be a place for MaaS in Tokyo, where unique challenges and requirements could produce some interesting solutions. By Xavier Boucherat

Tokyo’s public transport system is generally considered one of the finest and most reliable in the world. It prompts a question for mobility service providers looking for opportunities in the metropolis with the advent of connectivity and autonomy: if existing infrastructure already serves the needs of the metropolitan area’s 13 million-plus residents, then who will be paying extra for the privilege of a shortened ride?
