Faced with a combination of increasingly stringent fuel economy and emissions regulations, driver shortages and high driver turnover, and rising total cost of ownership, the truck industry, led by fleet demand, is exploring alternative propulsion technologies, alternative materials, and even alternatives to human drivers. Such fundamental changes in truck technology have an impact on truck design, development, and will ultimately change truck production.
