Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans on the eve of the 2019 International Motor Show: workshops and world premieres at “Meet Mercedes”

On display were five new plug-in hybrids from Mercedes-Benz, the new GLE Coupe and the next generation of electric city cars from smart, among others

Interesting workshops and a first look at numerous world premieres: on the eve of the International Motor Show (IAA) 2019, invited media representatives were already expecting an extensive program in the Forum of the Frankfurt Festhalle. On display were five new plug-in hybrids from Mercedes-Benz, the new GLE Coupe and the next generation of electric city cars from smart, among others. In addition to the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC (fuel consumption combined: 7.6-7.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 173-171 g/km)[1] and the GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 9.3 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 212 g/km) 1, other Mercedes-AMG vehicles making their debut at the 2019 IAA were on display. Also present were the new Mercedes-Benz GLB, the fully electric EQV MPV (combined power consumption: 27.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km, provisional figures) [2] and the Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF) 2019, which celebrate their trade fair premiere.

In addition to learning about the numerous new products, 550 guests were able to get insights about the product and brand philosophy of Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans via five workshops as well as expert discussions and interviews – all in a relaxed atmosphere. During a tour of the Festhalle with Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales, the invited journalists experienced the newly developed stand concept, which stands for innovation and sustainability and is even more customer oriented.

A comprehensive look into the future – the workshop program

In the presentation “Best Customer Experience 4.0 – luxury experience means ease of interaction,” Britta Seeger explained how Mercedes-Benz is aligning sales at all customer contact points. With the “Best Customer Experience 4.0” sales strategy, the brand is taking the next major step towards seamlessly linking digital sales channels with the physical brand experience. The company, together with its sales partners, expects to realize a quarter of worldwide passenger car sales via online channels by 2025.

Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, spoke in his lecture “R&D: shaping mobility in a transforming world” about why, that in the field of research & development, openness in technology, cooperation, efficiency and flexibility are more than ever the essential keys to success. Digitization and sustainability, a focus on electrification and, last but not least, a first-class global team all play central roles.
