Fast-paced test bed: Shell’s motorsport lessons shape road tech

Motorsport offers one of the harshest environments for automotive technology, putting vehicle systems under tremendous pressure and demanding maximum performance at all times. For vehicle suppliers, it offers one of the most rewarding proving grounds for technology. Fuels and lubricants specialist Shell has invested heavily in various racing partnerships around the world, including Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1, Ducati Corse in MotoGP, BMW Motorsport in DTM, and more recently Nissan in Formula E.

All of these partnerships offer a very tangible demonstration of Shell's fuels and lubricants, as well as associations with some of the leading automakers. If Shell fuel is good enough for Ferrari or BMW, then surely it's good enough for an everyday road car. And the benefits are real.
