Home and workplace charging vital for EV adoption

ChargePoint’s André ten Bloemendal tells Freddie Holmes that charge points must be located where electric vehicles will spend most of their time

For manufacturers developing electric vehicles (EVs), getting those cars off the forecourt and into the hands of consumers has proven more challenging than expected. In the second quarter of 2019, sales of plug-in vehicles grew rapidly by 35.6% year-over-year, but capturing only a sliver of the market. According to figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), ‘electrically chargeable vehicles’ accounted for just 2.4% of all new car sales across the region.
