Big CV fleets keen for new powertrain solutions, but opinions vary on autonomy

It has been said of autonomous vehicles (AV) that trucking could be the first sector to benefit. Trucks spend much of their time on the highway, where the technical challenge is considerably reduced compared with the complexity and unpredictability of a built-up urban environment. What’s more, the business case for fitting a self-driving system to a vehicle at a cost of thousands of dollars is more compelling for fleets than individuals, as efficiencies can then be gained.
