The transition from hardware- to software-defined vehicles presents huge challenges for today’s automakers. These companies have spent much of the previous century mastering the mechanical nuances of internal combustion engine mobility and architectures. However, soon much of this knowledge’s value will be confined to the scrap heap with new expertise on electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures expected to become one of several new core competencies.
