The PEUGEOT brand has just started selling the PEUGEOT e-208 GT, its 100% electric hatchback, on the Brazilian market;
The first 20 customers will be offered a “WEG” home charging station, a partner certified by the brand in Brazil and qualified to sell charging stations through the PEUGEOT dealer network;
The arrival of this top-of-the-range version inaugurates the launch in Brazil of an ecosystem designed around customers purchasing electric vehicles;
To support this launch, strategic partnerships have been signed with various partners and give substance to the “Move to Electric” strategy developed by PEUGEOT do Brasil.
By embracing the world of electrification in Brazil, PEUGEOT is strengthening its position as an innovative brand, in phase with the new aspirations and values of a changing society. With those of an increasingly demanding customer, just like the PEUGEOT brand, whose commitment is to achieve the highest standards of excellence.
The proof? The highly selective “Quatro Rodas” magazine ranked the PEUGEOT e-208 GT at the top of its recent comparison with its main B-segment competitors, citing “its pleasure [to drive] and high performance, but also its user-friendliness in urban use, its level of technology, its finishes and its space for passengers and luggage. “
PEUGEOT e-208 GT: The irresistible 100% electric saloon
PEUGEOT do Brasil launched the new PEUGEOT e-208 GT, its 100% electric saloon in the prestigious setting of the “Museu do Amanhã[1]” in Rio de Janeiro.
Designed to write a new chapter in the famous Series 2, the new PEUGEOT 208 is a seductive car in every respect. Since its launch in 2020, it has won several awards, both in Europe and in Brazil, such as the European Car Of The Year (COTY) trophy, one of the most coveted awards in the world. In Brazil, in its FlexFuel configuration, the UOL Carros website awarded it the “Best Compact Hatchback” prize. Also in Brazil, but in its 2021 version, the PEUGEOT 208 was voted “Best Compact Car” at the eleventh edition of the CAR AWARDS BRAZIL and was awarded the title of “Purchase of the Year 2021” by the magazine Motor Show.
Continuing along promising trajectory, PEUGEOT has started selling the PEUGEOT e-208 GT in Brazil, which offers a lively and stimulating driving experience thanks to its 100% electric engine:
- 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm of torque (available from 0 km/h) for immediate responsiveness,
- Silent running and no vibrations.
The new PEUGEOT e-208 GT offers three driving modes:
- Eco: optimised range,
- Normal: optimum comfort for everyday use,
- Sport: priority to performance and sensations, maximum power and torque (0 to 100 km/h in 8.1s).
The EAT8 “Shift and Park by Wire” automatic gearbox control is intuitive and ergonomic. It has five modes: P (Park), D (Drive), N (Neutral), R (Reverse) and B Mode. The last mode is used to regenerate the battery, optimising the vehicle’s range. The driver can choose between “moderate” driving, for a feeling similar to that of a petrol vehicle, or “enhanced” driving, for deceleration controlled by the accelerator pedal.
High performance battery
The new PEUGEOT e-208 is equipped with a high-capacity 50 kWh battery that provides a range of up to 340 km under the WLTP (Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedures) certification protocol.
The vehicle can be recharged from conventional household sockets or from fast charging stations via a socket located in the fuel filler flap.
The system includes a type 2 plug, for alternating current (AC) and a CCS-2 plug, for direct current (DC). Recharging starts immediately after the cable is connected and the user can follow the charging status using the indicator lights (white = open for plug connection; green: flashing = charging / fixed = charging complete; red = charging anomaly/problem). To open the hatch, simply unlock the vehicle doors.
From a dedicated public charging point, the thermal regulation of the battery means that 100 kW chargers to be used and you can reach 80% of the charge in 30 minutes. In practice, this amounts to about 270 km of range.
The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km at 70% of its charge capacity.
CMP platform: optimised architecture
The new PEUGEOT 208 is built on the latest generation of the Stellantis Group platform: the CMP (Common Modular Platform). Reserved for the B and C segments, this new base completes the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) offer.
As its name suggests, the CMP platform is modular in terms of dimensions and engines. It’s multi-energy feature allows its future customers to choose the type of traction: thermal (petrol/diesel) or electric.
The CMP platform also offers a higher level of comfort and safety by improving on-board acoustic and thermal comfort, reducing vibrations, and providing unparalleled driving aids in the B-segment.
This means, for example, that even with a 220-litre battery pack under the vehicle floor, the platform’s architecture makes it possible to:
- Maintain the same boot volume as the petrol version (311 litres);
- The same amount of space for front and rear passengers as the petrol version;
- An excellent driving position and the latest generation of driving aids.
In order to drive safely in Brazil, the local PEUGEOT Brand Engineering team has introduced a series of modifications, in particular reinforcements linked to the specificities of the climate and the road. One of these modifications concerns the battery protection kit, which consists of metal (rather than plastic) plates installed over the entire floor surface and under the boot. The PEUGEOT e-208 GT’s suspension wishbones are also stronger, as are the tyres, which have the same dimensions, but are the Run Flat type in Brazil.
The attachment system for the 12-volt battery has also been adapted to ensure optimal and safe operation. Finally, the air conditioning system has been adjusted to obtain maximum thermal performance, even in very high temperature environments, thus increasing the level of comfort on board the vehicle.
It’s more than a product, it’s an ecosystem
For PEUGEOT, the launch of an electric vehicle is not only about offering a new product, but also about rolling out an electric mobility ecosystem, designed for the user. The launch of the PEUGEOT e-208 GT in Brazil represents not only the introduction of an electric offer, but also the kick-off of a major repositioning of the Brand, one of the strategic pillars of which is “Move To Electric”.
This ecosystem encompasses a series of measures to ensure the best possible experience when a customer opts for an electric vehicle. To build this ecosystem, the Brand has mapped the typical journey of an electric vehicle customer, from purchase to after-sales, in order to identify their needs and anticipate the solutions to be provided, thereby ensuring their peace of mind. In doing so, PEUGEOT is innovating beyond the product itself, and is setting up a dedicated structure, which includes:
- e-Centers: a network of dealerships structured to ensure the presentation, sale and repair of electric vehicles;
- A qualified call centre and after-sales service to guarantee the highest level of service and customer support;
- A selection of approved and certified partners to respond to questions, beyond the product itself, in order to offer the best possible customer experience.
An ecosystem built around partnerships
WEG – The marketing of the PEUGEOT e-208 GT in Brazil is a good illustration of the chain of resources put in place with important local partners. One of them, WEG, has joined forces with the brand to provide a free charging station to the first 20 buyers of the vehicle.
Developed for use indoors or outdoors, in a garage or car park, the Wemob wall charger is modern and compact, ideal for private or shared use, in a single-phase or two-phase network. It features Wi-Fi connectivity, LED indicators, TAG access control, EV Drivers app, energy metering and smart charging. With a power of 7.4 kW or 22 kW, it can quickly recharge the vehicle’s battery.
WEG, a Brazilian multinational, is one of the largest manufacturers of electrical equipment in the world and the certified and qualified partner of the PEUGEOT brand for the sale and installation of charging stations.
ECOVAGAS – Developed in partnership by Estapar (the largest parking network in Brazil) and Enel X (a global energy company), the Ecovagas project provides the first semi-public charging network for hybrid and electric vehicles in Brazil. Customers who own an electric PEUGEOT will be able to use the charging service at the Ecovagas network’s electric stations completely free of charge, as provided for in the agreement between Enel X and Estapar for the customers of the project’s partner companies, such as the Stellantis Group.
The network currently has 150 charging stations, available for all electrified vehicles equipped with a standard American type 2 plug, widely used in the Brazilian market and compatible with the PEUGEOT e-208 GT. Smart charging is possible thanks to Enel X technology at the charging stations. The Ecovagas network will reach 200 charging stations during 2021.
The Ecovagas network installations are mainly concentrated in premium car parks managed by Estapar, in shopping centres, airports, hospitals, stadiums and educational institutions. In the first phase of the project, the charging stations were installed in 23 cities and 10 states, such as São Paulo (SP), Guarulhos (SP), Barueri (SP), Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte (MG), Curitiba (PR), Aracaju (SE), Recife (PE), Salvador (BA), Brasília (DF), Campinas (SP) and Fortaleza (CE)
CART & TUPINAMBÁ – For easy access to the network of electric charging stations, customers will be able to use the Stellantis Group’s CART platform, both inside and outside urban centres. This feature is available to owners of the PEUGEOT e-208 GT, as it is supported by an application compatible with the car’s multimedia system, allowing users to search for nearby recharging stations, depending on their location.
By acquiring a PEUGEOT e-208 GT, the brand’s Brazilian customers will also acquire a series of facilities designed to make their electrification experience complete and attractive.
PEUGEOTt: 211 years of history, a pioneering spirit at the service of mobility
With two hundred and eleven years of experience, PEUGEOT is now opening a new chapter in its long history: entering a new century, marked by broad transformations, such as digitalisation and ultra-connectivity, but also new modes of consumption and mobility.
The brand has transformed itself by opening up new avenues of mobility, in particular by developing electric mobility.
In Europe, PEUGEOT has a wide range of electrified vehicles and is committed to having an electrified version on 100% of its models by 2024.
In South America, this experiment in electrification began with the launch of the PEUGEOT e-208 GT and is based on a single strategy, which consists of offering its customers:
- Peace of mind: as a major player in each industrial revolution, PEUGEOT is confidently striding towards the energy transition;
- Pleasure: because for PEUGEOT, the future of the car will always be about pleasure! It is and will remain part of the brand’s DNA;
- Simplicity: by offering PEUGEOT customers the possibility of choosing the propulsion mode that suits them best. In this respect, the CMP modular platform is an essential element, as it offers agility in adapting to the pace of the energy transition, without compromising the core values of the brand’s vehicles.
