The mechanical necessities of an internal combustion engine (ICE) have limited the creativity of commercial vehicle (CV) designs to date. Exact configurations vary from region to region and application to application, but the general formula remains the same: the engine is located at the front of the vehicle with the cabin placed either directly behind or directly above. A move toward electrified powertrains, however, appears likely to offer designers access to new concepts.
