Volkswagen, Bosch and Shell all envision an electric future, but they still invested heavily into Blue Diesel and Blue Gasoline. Megan Lampinen takes a closer look

Big name players have been pursuing low carbon fuel development as an eco-friendly, immediately available alternative to traditional gasoline and diesel. These fuels represent a drop-in replacement, meaning the existing internal combustion engine (ICE) and its supporting infrastructure need not change; in fact, they could stick around for longer thanks to the environmental benefits of these alternative fuels.
