Why does Europe lag on battery recycling sustainability?

A new battery recycling study suggests Europe needs to make significant sustainability improvements to accommodate rapid EV expansion. By Lee Monks

European Environment Agency statistics highlight the rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) on the continent. From a mere 600 registrations in 2010, there were 1.74 million by 2021, 18% of total new registrations—a figure that rose to 22% in 2022. By 2030, a minimum of 40 million EVs are expected on European roads, with 350 million worldwide.
