US finalises rules on Chinese connected car technology 

The new rules leave the door open for the incoming Trump administration to further restrict Chinese competitiveness internationally. By Stewart Burnett 

With mere days remaining before president-elect Donald Trump resumes office, the outgoing Biden Administration has further restricted Chinese automakers’ ability to do business in the US. According to a 14 January 2025 report by Reuters, the government has finalised a set of rules that will prohibit almost all Chinese-made vehicles from domestic sale. The rules target both Chinese-made automotive hardware and software.
