India doubles down on hydrogen with new heavy-duty pilots

India will test both hydrogen and fuel cell combustion engine trucks and buses across 10 routes nationwide. By Stewart Burnett

On 4 March 2025, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy approved five new pilot projects for hydrogen-based buses and heavy-duty trucks. A total of 37 vehicles will be deployed nationwide to assess the viability of the fuel as a means of decarbonising key aspects of the country’s commercial transportation.
