UoT study warns green hydrogen could be worse than diesel

The Nature-published study found a negligible difference in trucking emissions between solar-produced hydrogen and blue hydrogen. By Stewart Burnett

A new study published in the Nature journal has shed light on how the production pathway of hydrogen fuel affects its viability as a means of decarbonising commercial transport. Surprisingly, the study concluded that solar-derived hydrogen is likely to produce higher CO2 emissions than diesel due largely to the coal-intensive power grids used to manufacture solar panels in China.
