Corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) regulations impose a strict fleet average target of 54.5mpg for all new light vehicles in the US by 2025. As such, a market for lightweighting has rapidly expanded and an increasing number of vehicles now use new composite materials.
US lightweighting solutions supplier Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) is integrating its TCA Ultra Lite material in the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette, reducing weight by 20lbs on the Stingray Coupe model in particular. According to the supplier, the “space-age” material offers significant weight- and cost-savings over aluminium.
