US HD truck market slowdown to continue in 2017 – ACT Research

The near-record high year for the North American heavy truck market in 2015 has proven to be a tough act to follow in 2016. Strains became apparent in July as various Tier 1 suppliers, OEMs and analysts highlighted weaker demand and underlying trends that were generally conducive of a slowdown.

US Class 8 production totalled 323,000 units in 2015, and is expected to fall to around 230,000 in 2016. Manufacturers have been looking at Mexico as an area of expansion, but will a Trump administration change things? With these factors in mind, Steve Tam, Vice President of Indiana-based ACT Research, discusses how the market is looking for 2017.
