For some players in the automotive industry, the performance superiority of solid-state batteries (SSBs) over standard lithium-ion is fully apparent. SSB cells have a higher energy density and a longer lifespan, can be recharged faster, and are not susceptible to safety issues caused by thermal runaway. Despite these advantages, the difficulties of mass producing the technology have limited its utilisation in the electrification journey so far.
