Included in the terms of a new European Directive, 2010/47/EU, dealing with vehicle roadworthiness, is an amendment to the roadside inspection procedure for in-service diesel vehicles. It imposes, for the first time, a 1.5m-1 smoke opacity (i.e. visible density) limit. It applies to Euro 4, 5 and EEV certified trucks
