Africa takes two-pronged approach to emissions reduction

Michael Nash takes a look at a recent study from the International Council on Clean Transportation regarding transport emissions in Southern and Western Africa

Africa’s economic performance has been improving during recent years. Statistics from the African Development Bank show that GDP growth reached 3.6% during 2015, with estimates suggesting this figure rose to 3.7% in 2016 and 4.5% in 2017. As a result, the continent represents one of the world’s fastest growing economies, second only to East Asia.

As in many other areas of the world, Africa is facing a huge boom in its urbanised population, with many residents moving to cities. This is causing some major issues in terms of transportation, especially air quality.
