Asian markets anticipate potential Dongfeng-Changan merger

Similar stock exchange filings by Dongfeng and Changan could suggest a merger between the two Chinese state-owned automakers. By Will Girling

As the prospect of Nissan and Honda coming together crumbles, another significant merger in the Asian automotive industry could be in the works. On 9 February 2025, Dongfeng Motor filed a document with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcing a “possible change in the controlling shareholder.” Changan Automobile posted a similarly worded document with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on the same day.
