Automated cars need to meet real-world driving demands

Current self-driving vehicles require orchestrated driving scenarios in a controlled setting—clear lane markings and low speeds with minimal unexpected changes in driving conditions. Yet moving forward to full autonomy, vehicles will need to make complex, quick decisions that real-world driving demands.

Marc Weiser, Founder and Managing Director at RPM Ventures, an Ann Arbor-based venture capital firm that focuses on the intersection of mobile, big data and automotive, spoke to Automotive World regarding the vast developments that cars will need to face to become fully automated, noting that coping with real-world driving situations is a big influencer of how fast autonomous developments will be.
