Every month, Automotive World hosts an online panel discussion on a key issue facing the global automotive industry. The carefully-selected panellists are always well-placed to share knowledge and insight from within their companies, while also providing a broader perspective on the global car and heavy truck industries, as well as manufacturing and future technology. They were joined by Sandeep Kar, at the time Global Vice President – Mobility at Frost & Sullivan, and now Chief Strategy Officer at Fleet Complete.

Brexit, one year on: impact on Europe’s auto industry

In June 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union (EU). Automotive World assembled a panel of industry experts to examine the impact, one year on, that ‘Brexit’ has had on OEMs and suppliers in the UK and Europe. Representing the interests of Europe’s automotive suppliers was Sigrid de Vries, Secretary General of CLEPA (European Association of Automotive Suppliers); Ian Henry, Director at London-based automotive consultancy AutoAnalysis and Harald Wimmer, EMEA Auto leader at PwC provided insight from their automotive industry research.

Freight – there’s an app for that!

Apps have changed people’s perception of mobility. Now that same technology is beginning to transform the movement of freight. We assembled a panel of truck industry experts to discuss the extent to which on-demand load-matching technology will penetrate and streamline the freight market, and how this will be received by fleets, truck OEMs and other freight industry stakeholders. Drew McElroy, Chief Executive of US company Transfix and Raghav Himatsingka, Founder and Chief Executive of Indian start-up Truckola represented the fleet aggregators, with broader industry insight provided by Eric Starks, Chairman and Chief Executive of FTR.

OEMs and suppliers are preparing for a future in which services account for more than products. In November, we brought together two OEMs and an analyst to discuss the role of the car in the sharing economy, and how OEMs plan to generate (additional) revenue from mobility services. The vehicle manufacturers were represented by Peter B. Kosak, Executive Director, Urban Mobility Programs at General Motors and Larry Dominique, President and Chief Executive of PSA North America, with broader perspective provided by Timo Moeller, who heads up the Center for Future Mobility at McKinsey & Co.

Automotive World’s annual next-year outlook webinar is an opportunity to consider the opportunities and challenges facing the global automotive industry in the coming 12 months.
