In a March 2021 report, McKinsey & Co described the automotive industry as having “weaker financial performance than other sectors because of structural disadvantages.” This results from high capex, frequent oversupply of product, and thin profit margins. Given these in-built disadvantages, the consultancy anticipated that mobility players would inevitably seek out organised ecosystems to lessen financial pressures.
