Autonomous driving is the key to zero fatalities, says Volvo

Volvo Car Corporation has an ambitious safety target for 2020, but thanks to passive and active countermeasures, along with extensive autonomous drive tests, the OEM appears more than confident of success. By Xavier Boucherat

Few OEMs emphasize their commitment to car safety quite as passionately as Volvo. Jan Ivarsson, the OEM’s Senior Technical Advisor for Safety, suggests the relationship is as old as the company itself, the founders of which reasoned that since cars are driven by people, safety must be at the core of everything.
