Autonomous tech, not car manufacturing, draws Apple and Google

Apple and Google have made it clear they aim to contribute to the autonomous car, but not as a new GM or Ford. By Megan Lampinen

The past few weeks have witnessed more signs of interest in the automotive industry from technology giants Apple and Google. There has been considerable speculation on the role these new entrants will play in the upcoming world of autonomous transport. While their technology proliferated on vehicles displayed at this year's Paris Motor Show, the companies themselves were absent. "Every OEM, every supplier at Paris had something on connectivity. It was interesting that I didn't see the people like Apple and Google," Nick Gill, Chairman of Global Automotive Sector at Capgemini, told Automotive World.
