While it may be some way off before widespread adoption, the impact of autonomous driving technology is already sending shockwaves across the automotive industry. Many experts have described the technology as one of the biggest disruptors that the industry has ever seen.
In the commercial vehicle (CV) sector, autonomous driving tech could have a wide variety of effects. Studies show that platooning, whereby the trucks drive in tandem and operate in a semi-autonomous mode, could provide significant fuel savings as well as comfort benefits for the drivers. It may also reduce congestion by improving traffic flow, therefore enabling optimisation of the supply chain and transport system.
