Autonomous vehicle perception is about more than just LiDAR and radar

As the industry grapples with the limitations of existing visual sensors, the search is on for new technologies to plug the gaps. By Jack Hunsley

While human drivers rely on experience and gut instinct to navigate roads and junctions, the autonomous vehicle (AV) lacks the capability of such in-depth natural analysis. Rather than just looking at its environment and making a judgement, an AV needs to build a model of it.
