Truck drivers have been attracting considerable media attention lately. In some cases it is the shortage of them, with the US and Europe in particular renewing complaints on this front. A recent poll by the UK's Freight Transport Association (FTA) confirmed that the most parents would not encourage their children to become truckers. Low wages, inadequate roadside facilities and poor public perception are all contributing to the driver crisis, which isn't helped by recent violence in Calais, where one driver at the port was reportedly attacked with a chainsaw by a desperate migrant.
