Buses reroute BlaBlaCar’s mobility blueprint

BlaBlaCar's CEO speaks to Megan Lampinen about its transformation from carpooling platform to road marketplace booking system

BlaBlaCar has made a name for itself on the mobility scene by brokering long-distance carpooling. The platform took a giant leap forward last year by including buses. After the 2018 acquisition of Ouibus it started introducing its own branded bus service, BlaBlaBus, in Western Europe. Efforts on the bus front kicked up a gear recently with the offer to acquire Busfor, the leading online bus ticketing platform in Russia and Ukraine. The acquisition is part of BlaBlaCar’s global strategy to build a multimodal transport network offering carpooling and buses on a single platform. As BlaBlaCar's co-founder and Chief Executive Nicolas Brusson explains, they are both about filling empty seats in vehicles and making the most of an otherwise unused asset.
