BYD still on track to surpass Tesla in 2024 global EV sales

BYD’s Q2 2024 growth is buoyed by dominance in China’s EV market alongside growth in emerging or tariff-free overseas markets. By Stewart Burnett

The fast-rising Chinese automotive brand BYD continued its play for global new energy vehicle (NEV) leadership in Q2 2024. The automaker reported a net income of CN¥9.06bn (US$1.28bn) for the quarter, its second highest on record behind CN¥10.4bn in Q3 2023. This sum represents a 32.8% rise year-on-year and a 98.3% increase on the previous quarter.
