Broadcom recently announced the second generation of its high-performance BroadR-Reach Ethernet portfolio. The Irvine, California-based company states it is bringing cost-effective connectivity to the automotive industry through reduced weight and lower cabling and connector costs. In addition, a new chip family allows for centralised in car-networking for greater sharing of data.
Broadcom's chips are used widely in smartphones made by Samsung and Apple – most recently in the Apple Watch – but increasingly so within modern cars to enable connectivity similar to that of a smartphone.
