CATL develops battery for promising extended range EV market

By producing a hybrid battery capable of delivering pure EV-like performance, CATL could help expand the extended range EV market. By Will Girling

On 24 October 2024, CATL launched what it claims is the first hybrid vehicle battery to achieve a range comparable to a pure electric vehicle (EV) cell. Capable of delivering 280km from a ten-minute charge, the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery (FSHB) promises drivers substantially greater range than the 30-100km of most plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) running on electricity alone.
