More code in cars will force plants to upgrade testing

Increased technology in cars means more things can go wrong. For OEMs, it’s a headache, but for automation suppliers, it’s an opportunity

In 2015, Nissan’s Sunderland facility in the UK received a major upgrade in preparation for the arrival of the Infiniti Q30. The premium model’s bespoke design required its own body shop and engine chassis marriage system. Beyond that, new facilities were also required for the installation and testing of the vehicle’s advanced electronics, including its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment features.
